Mixing prints is not as crazy and clown like as it sounds; it is actually quite exciting if it is done properly. Mixing prints is all about finding the right colors and sizes that will mesh well with each pattern.
The pieces below both have patterns but the yellow shorts have less of a bold pattern than the polka-dotted shirt. These pieces mesh well together even though they are both printed, one is significantly bolder than the other so it stands out a little more and the other one fades into the background.
If you are a newbie to mixing prints, I suggest starting out with mixing prints into your accessories first and then branching out into the clothing aspect of it. When you feel confident enough to step into the clothing zone, you can start with less energetic colors or have both of the prints be very close in color before you venture out into other lanes. Start out slow but I promise you that when you start running, you won’t stop.
